说起Bean，我习惯叫它是Mac OS X上的AbiWord，不仅免费，而且小巧，是一款简单而实用的文字处理软件。对于大部分人来说，未必会用到Microsoft Office或者OpenOffice.org那样庞大繁多的功能，主要也就是编辑、浏览一些文字文档了，这个时候，Bean将会是一个不错的选择。相对于系统自带的文字编辑工具，Bean并不繁复，却具备了更多的实用需求满足。

Bean除了主要的文字编辑功能外，还提供即时字数计算、更详细的文字内容统计，左下方还有个比例缩放滑杆，可以轻易地更改浏览比例，而文档浏览器则提供了许多选项和功能滑杆；也可以依日期备份档案、自动储存、页面布局模式、显示隐藏的字元、浮动视窗选项等等。

Bean支持的文档格式有：

- .rtf format (rich text)
- .rtfd format (rich text with graphics)
- .bean format (identical to .rtfd)
- .txt format (Unicode and legacy)
- .html format (as source code)
- .webarchive format (Apple's web archive format)

Bean transparently imports and exports these formats
- .doc format (MS Word '97, minus images, margins, and page size)
- .xml format (MS Word 2003 XML, minus images)

Bean can export all of the above formats to this format
- .html (web page format, minus images)

Bean最新版本为0.92，支持MAc OS X 10.4.0以上版本操作系统。
