微软将在 Windows 中增加对蓝光格式的支持

东芝宣布了放弃 HD DVD 格式之后，各大厂商、企业和软件商都相应作出了一定的调整，比如，Amazon 已经宣布支持蓝光格式。微软 CEO Steve Ballmer 公开表示，微软正着手在 Windows 中增加支持蓝光格式的开发，将让 Windows 完全发挥蓝光格式高画质的优势：
Steve Ballmer 在 MIX'08 会议上提到："We've already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like. Microsoft is going to support Blu-ray in ways that are important."
原本微软是东芝 HD DVD 格式的主要支持者，最为密切的就是 Xbox360 了。有评论认为微软会在东芝退出之后，进行更为广泛的选择，但是 Steve Ballmer 却表示，很有可能就在今年，Xbox360 即将支持蓝光，甚至是推出与蓝光有关的产品配件。
"I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We've moved on. We'll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense. Today, I think it is actually pretty important to have some kind of drive (that supports HD content)."
