Perian 是一款用于 QuickTime 的插件，插件能让 QuickTime 支持更多的媒体格式，作者已经在 1.0 版本发布的时候宣布开源，整合 A52Codec，支持 H.264 和 Matroska/MKV 等。最近，作者推出了 1.1 正式版，开始支持 SSA 与 SRT 字母，新增了多种音频兼容格式：
- Major performance improvements
- TrueAudio, MP1, and DTS audio support
- Slice-based multithreaded decoding for MPEG-1/2/H.264
- Apple H.264 now handles AVCHD/interlaced video
- Compatibility fixes for QuickTime 7.4 and Leopard
- Objective-C GC compatibility
- Fixed a crash in Toast
- Better subtitle rendering
- Subtitles play during MKV loading
- Snow support
- Miscellaneous bug fixes
